The Lemmertz wheel pictured has had the rim reversed, The safety bead is normally on the outside. It may look tuff but the offset is now wrong. This will give your wheel bearings a hard time as well as making the steering feel a bit strange.

"a mount in front of the engine block" - I expect that someone has already told you that is for the alternator mount. Very late B18's only with just the 123GT getting the alternator. After all the nice paint it's a pity the distributor body didn't get a coat of black..........................

Check that the advance and retard mechanism is working properly. If you twist the rotor round a little by hand it should snap back again. If there is a problem, clean and lubricate. You could also have a broken spring. Lubricate the shaft with a few drops of oil onto the felt under the rotor and do ...
