rare amazon with front bench

Post by Dutchguy »

Allright guys. Someone on Facebook told me I should ask this here.
So I bought this '67 Amazon P121 4 door with front bench seat and column shifter. No one can tell me about these rare features. I've been searching the whole internet, but don't get any further.
I bought the car with no history from the family of an old man that owned it for the last 11 years. The car has some trim from older models, but it was originally new delivered in the Netherlands and has Always stayed here. It was restored once or twice during its lifetime and has a B20A engine.
According to the VIN plate it has the normal M40 gearbox and not the M40RV that should go with the column shifter. The gearbox also indicates a normal M40 type and a serialnumber, but it really is a manual with steeringcolumn shift. The chassisnumber (234125) and VIN plate match with licence and papers, so they belong together and are Original. I can't find any traces of welding or changing the chassisnumber! The interior should be brown according to the VIN plate and what I find on the internet, but as you can see it's red. The S-code is 5091, but can't find anything concrete about this edition.

My questions:
- Do the front bench and gearbox/shifter suit this car originally?
- Where was this car assembled?
- Is it true that this car was assembled to be a taxi?
- How many of the Amazon's with front bench seat and column shifter are produced and/or are still around?
- What means the S-code 5091?

As far as I can track, the production of Amazon's with a front bench stopped in 1967, the year my car has been produced. Could it be possible that the VIN-plate details of my car don't match the actual colours and exact type because my car is one of the very last and they were using stock parts lying around the warehouse?

121941 means (as you alredy know) Amazon with 4 doors, single carburator engine, 4 speed transmission with floor shift lever, not assembled in Sweden and left hand drive. This means that the front bench seat and column shifter is not original on your vehicle.

Probably it was assembled in Gent.

May or may not, see S-5091

No idea.

S-5091 is listed on http://www.volvoamazonpictures.se/typei ... mation.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; what it means is unknown.

So many things has been changed on this car, most likely even gearbox and front seat.

I would suspect that he id of the car has been tampered. Where is the chassisnumber on the body situated and what does it look like?
One strong indication of tampering is the fact that the car has the tube for the chain that controls the heatercurtain. Heatercurtains were long gone
by the time Volvo produced the 1967 model...

the chassisnumber is located on the middle of the top of the firewall. It does not look like it was tampered with. the edges of the plate it is located on are still looking like Original spotwelds. Offcourse I did not strip away the paint, so I can't be completely sure.
You're mentioning the heatercurtain, but I'm not sure what that is. When was this feature removed?
If the chassis had been tampered with and this chassis really is from an earlier year, how can I identify the real year of construction? What details on the chassis are there to be sure?

Check the rear axel how it is fitted 1967 amazon got in Volvo terms torque rods insted of support arms. Heatcurtain is a radiatorcover , Volvo calls it blind.

On the early models the chassie number is located near the heat controle valve.
