Brake caliper types

How many brake caliper types were fitted to amazons?

I know there is the 3 pot caliper as fitted to single line early amazons.
Then late model cars went to the 4 pot caliper with dual lines.

The very early 122s 61-62 were they ever fitted with a single pot caliper?

The reason I ask is I was sold a set of calipers and they only have 1 piston! I have never seen a amazon with single piston calipers. They told me it was not a mistake but there were listed for 61-62 only. Is that correct?

Dai,

3 piston calipers where first generation, then 4 - as you have allready described yourself.. And no, there's no front calipers with just a single piston.. and in 61-62 there's not even rear brake disc's.. (usually single-pot's)..so.. it all sounds strange.. Do you have a picture?

Exactly! And the 1800E/ES or 140/164 series wasn't arround in 61-62 - so if the calipers are in a Volvo box/or the box has a label saying Volvo '61-'62 - it's NOT the correct calipers in the box! ;)
See?, Easy tiger! 8)

ebay item number 320473807418

the picture is of the actual caliper listed !! I thought it was a generic picture they were using.

From my green books I can only see referance to the 3 and 4 pot calipers. What is puzzling is how they have come to the conculsion they are for a amazon???

Ahh.. I see you actually bought a set.. Well, has nothing to do with Amazon, let alone Volvo!!

How seller has come to conclusion is blowing in the wind! - Volvo used Girling/Ate..

The only thing that struck me was - Hey, it could be the Kreidler motorbike (German maker that produced a small motorbike under the name "Amazone").. but motorbike calipers in that period was sure not common... so that route is a dead end too!

I did buy a set thinking that the photo was a std photo that they use as per most of teh other big sellers of these type of items. I can confirm that the calipers are exactlylike teh photo and are a very odd single pot caliper at that.

At least they are now taking them back.
