P1800 driveshafts

Hello,

I have a P1800ES rear axle ready for my amazon, my car has a B21ET in it and I don't know how much power the axle will hold.
My max power output will be around 250hp on 18" x8wheels. Has anyboday an idea of how strong the P1800ES axles are? Will they
hold this power? Are it the same axles as in 140/160 or 240? Or is it a amazon driveshaft with the 5x108 bolt pattern on it?
Once my car drives like it should I will post some pictures.

Thanks!
Koen

You can modify a Dana 1031 axle from a Volvo 240. It´s stronger but a few centimeter longer. Than you even use the rear brakes from 240.

I now have a old type 140 axle under it but it isn't good anymore and therefore needs to be changed. Since I have a P1800 axle I was curious if the axle was strong enough to hold the power my car has. So its just a bolt on job and I can drive the car sooner.

I do not know if the P1800S/E and the P1800ES is the same, but if you already have a 140 axle on it, then your car's body has been modified and then it will fit, if the ES share same suspension as 140. It could also be that the axle itself has been modified.
Either way I cannot see how a P1800ES rear end is going to be able to handle 250 HP in any extended period of time, unless you baby it the whole time, and then not to mention the survival of the drive shaft.

The P1800 axle has the same mounting brackets on it as my amazon axle (later type of mounting type). Its a bolt on job even without chasis adjustments. Fitting it will be no problem.
For my 140 axle I took amazon brackets and welded it on the 140 axle. The shaft from gearbox to rearaxle is from a 740 2.3 16V and should take the power. Its twice as tick as the original shaft.

So should I leave the P1800 axle in the garage and adjust a new axle?

If it holds or not depends on how you are going to use the clutch.
I think the 1800E/ES axle has 140/240 (1030) inside and the driveshaft are similar to 140/240, 164 has a 1031 axle and is a bit stronger.

If you have problem with the rear axel from 140, you will get the same problem with the rear end from P1800.

the rear end from VOLVO 1031 is stronger in the gear part. The driv shaft is almost the same.

I will fit a 164E axle under the car, the reactions on the P1800axle aren't very positive :)

I have been looking around on the forum here but which axle is now the best option? 240 or 164? I got a 164 axle with LSD in but I see
more people are using the 240 axle. Is it only because he is a bit smaller in width? With the 140 axle I haven't got problems with the wheels comming out to far.

No they use it because it's easyer to find then a 140/164 axle. I think the 240 axle is wider?

The 240 axle is not wider than the 140/164 axle.
It's easier to find a 240-1031 than the 164-1031 axle and since it also got a more narrow track width it is often considered to fit better in an Amazon (with the same offset weels in the back as in the front).

Good to now, I built over the LSD from a 240 1031. The 164 axle is a late type so I will use that axle then.

Thanks!
